Wasps

wasp on pool surface

-are attracted to the pool because they are collecting water to take home for the little grubs - (say 'Ahhhhh!' ) - and to make the paper for their nests

  • The absolute last thing to do is to spray the wasps with insecticide while they are anywhere near the pool
  • Pool chemistry is complex enough without adding unknowns into the mix
  • If you can track the nest down by all means use an insecticide on it but be prepared for a few slightly miffed wasps taking severe defensive action
  • A wasp sting is not a pleasant experience; half a dozen stings can kill a susceptible person
  • Wasps settle on the water using the surface tension in the less turbulent areas of the pool; so all we have to do is to reduce that tension and the wasps fall though and drown. Don't you just love 'The Appliance of Science?
  • There are a number of products that will do this and one that we are familiar with is No More Bugs from LoChlor in Australia
  • Your local pool shop will probably have something similar
